The Miele WT2780: the ultimate washer dryer

The Miele WT2780 is a great combination washer and dryer for everyday use. Coming in at the top end of the scale at between £1000 and £1100, this washer/dryer is packed with extra features that make it worth the price. Rated A+ for energy efficiency, this is for anyone who wants to minimise their energy consumption and especially for anyone who lives in a busy household and requires high performance and reliability from their washer/dryer. Long lasting washing power with Miele WT2780

The Miele WT2780 has been tested by experts and shown to have a lifespan of twenty years based on average use. Although you would expect upwards of ten years use from a washer/dryer, to have it last for twenty years is a fantastic duration and makes this machine well worth its initial expense.

Anti-crease action

Everyone knows the irritating effect of leaving your washing in the machine after the load is finished; the washing lies all crushed together when wet and forms into creases that are very difficult to get out. Considering that many people put the washing machine on before leaving the house and are forced to leave their clothes inside the machine for many hours after its cycle is finished, the anti-crease action of the Miele WT2780 is a very handy and time-saving feature.

Pros

The first pro I would list for the Miele WT2780 is simply the fact that it is a washer and dryer in one. When you consider that many washing machines are the same price without having the drying function it seems that at anywhere from between £1000 to £1100 it isn’t as expensive as it seems. Consider the price of buying a washing machine and separate dryer; this would no doubt end up costing far more, and would take up more space too.

This is a machine that is really jam-packed with features. It has a light inside the drum, which is something I’ve never seen before on any washer or dryer and is just fantastically useful when trying to fish out dark clothing. No longer will that stray pink sock stay in the drum and end up ruining your whites in the next load with the Miele WT2780.

It also has a self-cleaning detergent dispenser drawer. This is just a great time-saver and keeps the drawer from ending up crusty with old powder. It’s simple, yet just such a great feature. It’s anti-crease action, meanwhile, keeps washing turning over every so often to prevent the creases that form when it is allowed to lie crumpled when wet for too long. Again, this is just a fantastically useful little feature to have.

Cons

At 5.5kg, I would have liked the drum of this machine to be a little larger. It’s pretty standard, but I’ve seen machines that have drums as large as 11kg nowadays, and I like having the ability to do a really large load all at once. However, unless you’re washing a lot of bedding, 5.5kg is probably a perfectly adequate drum size.

On the which website a lot of customers have mentioned this machine being very noisy, but it seems that this may be due to poor care of the machine and overloading which damages the drum rather than anything else. One customer mentioned that their excessively noisy machine was replaced by Miele with a much quieter one of the same model.

Customer reviews and scores

Out of 17 reviews on the Which website, the average score is around three out of five stars. Generally opinion seems to be quite polarised, however, with most ratings being either five or one star. The negative reviews all come from people complaining about the noise, which makes me suspect that they have faulty machines.

Conclusion

The Miele WT2780 is a great, feature-packed and high quality machine. I personally find that the little extras it includes such as the drum light and anti-crease action are what make it a cut above the rest, and at £1000-£1100 it’s not particularly expensive considering it’s a washer and dryer in one. Although some people seem to have difficulty with noise, I found the machine to be remarkably quiet even when spinning at 1600rpm.
